Description of the places to visit

Major Plaza of Lima- This Plaza was established
during the Spanish founding of Lima. It has served to
mark some of Spanish foundation of Lima marks one
of the important successes in the history of Peru.
Originally this area had small stores and businesses.
It was also used for both bull fights and for the
execution of prisoners during the Spanish
Inquisition. Later in the colonial period a central
pillar of bronze was used for announcements as it is
even today. In 1821 the independence of Peru was
announced here. Along the sides the Plaza are the
Governmental Palace, the Catholic Cathedral,
Archbishop’s Palace, and the buildings of the
Municipality of Lima.

Church and convent of San Francisco: This beautiful
example of colonial architecture was constructed in
the 17th century from blue tiles. It has many halls, an
amphitheater, patios, and a spectacular library. It is
an important site of religious art , and the Hall of
Zuraran. The basilica is constructed over a network
of subterranean galleries and catacombs, which
served as a cemetery during the colonial period and
can now be viewed by the public.

Museum of the Central Bank and Reserve of Peru:
In the central historical district of Lima we visit one
of the most beautiful buildings, the Central Reserve
Bank of Peru. Here we can appreciate the various
treasures of Peru including a select exposition of
gold and ceramic objects. We also find textiles of
diverse pre-Columbian cultures including those of
the Incas. This museum is sure to captivate and
impress our visitors.

Gold Museum of Peru: the ancient Peruvians worked
metal in an almost magical form. They use a
technique called lost wax, which is also known in the
Orient and the Occident during the epoch of the
Renaissance and employed here as well. Our visit to
the Gold Museum of Peru, allows us to appreciate a
superb collection of pieces of goal from various pre-
Columbian cultures. The pieces were made during
over 3000 years of Peruvian history. On exhibit are
objects and jewelry of incalculable value made of
gold and silver and precious gems. The objects are
from the splendid time of the Incas and other
civilizations and represent vast imperial empires.
The famous Peruvian goal attracted numerous
adventurers, 500 years ago during the European
invasion of the conquistadors and was the cause of
the end of the Incas. In addition, the gold Museum
has on exhibit a valuable collection of antique arms,
uniforms, and military hardware of diverse places
and times, up to 1300 years old. This section is
known as the Armaments Museum of the world.
