| Gold Museum & City Sights of Lima Price per person $90 -- minimum of two people for the private tour The duration of the tour is eight hours, and we leave at 9 AM Description of the places to visit Major Plaza of Lima- This Plaza was established during the Spanish founding of Lima. It has served to mark some of Spanish foundation of Lima marks one of the important successes in the history of Peru. Originally this area had small stores and businesses. It was also used for both bull fights and for the execution of prisoners during the Spanish Inquisition. Later in the colonial period a central pillar of bronze was used for announcements as it is even today. In 1821 the independence of Peru was announced here. Along the sides the Plaza are the Governmental Palace, the Catholic Cathedral, Archbishop’s Palace, and the buildings of the Municipality of Lima. Church and convent of San Francisco: This beautiful example of colonial architecture was constructed in the 17th century from blue tiles. It has many halls, an amphitheater, patios, and a spectacular library. It is an important site of religious art , and the Hall of Zuraran. The basilica is constructed over a network of subterranean galleries and catacombs, which served as a cemetery during the colonial period and can now be viewed by the public. Museum of the Central Bank and Reserve of Peru: In the central historical district of Lima we visit one of the most beautiful buildings, the Central Reserve Bank of Peru. Here we can appreciate the various treasures of Peru including a select exposition of gold and ceramic objects. We also find textiles of diverse pre-Columbian cultures including those of the Incas. This museum is sure to captivate and impress our visitors. Gold Museum of Peru: the ancient Peruvians worked metal in an almost magical form. They use a technique called lost wax, which is also known in the Orient and the Occident during the epoch of the Renaissance and employed here as well. Our visit to the Gold Museum of Peru, allows us to appreciate a superb collection of pieces of goal from various pre- Columbian cultures. The pieces were made during over 3000 years of Peruvian history. On exhibit are objects and jewelry of incalculable value made of gold and silver and precious gems. The objects are from the splendid time of the Incas and other civilizations and represent vast imperial empires. The famous Peruvian goal attracted numerous adventurers, 500 years ago during the European invasion of the conquistadors and was the cause of the end of the Incas. In addition, the gold Museum has on exhibit a valuable collection of antique arms, uniforms, and military hardware of diverse places and times, up to 1300 years old. This section is known as the Armaments Museum of the world. Tickets to enter the Museum of San Francisco and the Gold Museum and all other sites where required. The Museum of the Central Bank of Peru is not open on Saturday and Sunday in the afternoon and all day on Monday. |
