Peru’s currency, the nuevo sol, has reached its
strongest level versus the dollar (2.805) in
nearly two years this summer.

The nuevo sol has climbed 16% since its low in
March 2009 as Peru has recovered from the
international economic crisis, largely because of
ongoing construction boom throughout the
country.  The sol is expected to appreciate
more, due to the strong fundamentals of Peru's
economy and more dollars coming in thanks to
higher exports and private investment.

The government anticipates a growth rate of
6.6% in 2010, which would rank Peru alongside
Brazil as the fastest growing South American
economies
