| 9HD - Afro-Peruvian National Museum We will visit the Museo Nacional Afroperuano and experience the history of Afro-Americans in Peru and learn about the contribution to the country. We will look at how trade of African slaves in Latin America developed. This includes the characteristics of this phenomenon, social groups, life of slaves in Peru, work, punishments, activities, food, religion, clothes, culture and finally their way to freedom. We will study how African culture melted with the Peruvian culture. The National Museum Afroperuano was opened thanks to the “Mesa de Trabajo Afroperuano” of the Peruvian Congress. The aim of the museum is to preserve objects and information related to slavery in Peru, to investigate this part of Peruvian history, and to reflect on it. This knowledge will be passed it on to the next generations. The museum devoted its work also to the study of this period in Peruvian history and the contribution the Afro-Peruvian community made to the identity and national culture. The Museo Nacional Afroperuano displays relics from colonial times and the beginning of the Republic. You can view items demonstrating and explaining the historical and cultural aspects of slavery in Peru. These include documents and artifacts from this appalling time period. | Summary of tour: We pick you up at hotel at 9 a.m. and drive in private van to the museum. You have an English-speaking guide and services of chauffer. We will have lunch close to the museum or return you to your hotel at ~1 p.m at your option .
